同記事では「あらゆるモノがネットにつながる「IoT」を普及させるためなら、通信など既存の特許権の制限もありうる――。特許庁はIoT関連機器への貢献がわずかな技術に限り、利用差し止めを認めない方向で検討し始めた。特許権を持つ企業が権利侵害を次々訴えると、IoTの利活用が進まなくなる恐れがある。欧米でも制限する動きがあり、対応を急ぐ。（以下略）」

この日経記事をうけ、海外記事はIAMから4月21日に以下のように発信され、特許庁がIoTで特許制限の動きと報じた。

このIAM記事に対して、特許庁はその事実を否定し、そのコメントをいれた記事が4月24日づけIAMに以下のように報じられた。

ただ、IAMは日本においては、そのような特許制限への根強い意見もあると付記している。

"Earlier this week, IAM spotted a report in Japan's Nikkei newspaper claiming that the JPO was considering reforms to limit patent injunctions against IoT products. Specially, the article indicated that the changes could be codified in a 2021 revision to Japan's Patent Act. （中略）JPO has denied many of the specifics of that article(which it says contains factual errors) while acknowledging that it continues to discuss a range of policy responses to the emergence of the IoT and other next-generation technologies."
